Karazin University has held a meeting of the University Academic Board. It focused on promotion of the University, approval of the University Statute, the University sports clubs. The Board also elected professors and associate professors, and awarded academic titles to faculty members of the University.
The representatives of Kharkiv Organization of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine awarded a decoration (20 Kharkiv periodicals competed for it) to the University Newspaper Kharkiv University that won under the nomination “Best Special Newspaper”. The students workin for the Editorial Office of the University Newspaper, Hanna Kozlova, Liudmyla Shcherbak, Daria Kanitska, Arina Orlova and Alina Spasibka got Union membership tickets.
Vice-President Yurii Kholin stressed the importance of adapting the University Statute to the requirements of the law of Ukraine “On Higher Education”. The document determines the main directions in the University activities and tasks, its civil legal capacity, corporate powers, the rights and responsibilities of the University President as to the University management, the concept of educational activities and organization of teaching and learning activities; defines the essence and powers of public self-government bodies, participants of the educational process, tasks and areas of scientific, technical and innovative activities, sources of income and allocation of funds and property of the University, the reporting procedure, control of financial and economic activities, etc. The Academic Board approved the draft University Statute and submitted it for review to the Conference of the University Employees.
University President Vil Bakirov emphasized the necessity to work out a thorough University brand strategy and its promotion as a world-class university, "Karazin University is in the forefront of international rankings, has obvious advantages in scienсe and education, but few people know about this outside of Kharkiv." The Academic Board considered several University brand development strategies with regard to effective use of its potential. One of the suggestions was to focus on the values cultivated in the University, namely European standards of education, democracy, professionalism, intelligence, innovation, patriotism, devotion to traditions, and the like, to point out its uniqueness and advantages, and to improve the work on attracting the target audience.
The Head of the Department of Physical Training and Sports, Volodymyr Temchenko, reported on the activity of the sports clubs and the sports achievements of the representatives of Karazin University community. In the forcus were the traditional events of international class held at the sports clubs, the pecularities of students’ choice of classes in special sports, with tennis, football and fencing being the top-3, and the pressing problems requiring urgent settlement.
