Karazin University has held a meeting of its Academic Board with the participation of the Nobel Laureate in Economics (2002), founder of experimental economics, Vernon Lomax Smith, Professor of Economics at the Weatherhead School of Management of Case Western Reserve University (OH, USA), researcher of the Economic Science Institute at Chapman University (CA, USA) Roman Sheremeta, Karazin University President, Vil Bakirov, vice-presidents, deans, directors of the University research institutes and structural subdivisions, and student self-government representatives.
During the meeting, Vernon Lomax Smith was awarded the diploma of Karazin University Doctor Honoris Causa, which is the highest scientific award of the University, the medal and the University’s traditional pass.
Also, Associate Professor of the Department of Experimental Physics Physics Oleh Shekhovtsov was awarded the Diploma of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for conscientious work, considerable personal contribution to the training of highly qualified specialists and fruitful scientific and educational work; the Dean of the School of Ecology, Associate Professor Hanna Titenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Physical and Biomedical Electronics and Integrated Information Technologies of the School of Radiophysics, Biomedical Electronics and Computer Systems Serhii Berdnyk were awarded commendations from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for conscientious work; Professor of the Department of Physical Geography and Cartography of the School of Geology, Geography, Recreation and Tourism Ihor Cherviaanov was awarded a merit certificate from Kharkiv Regional State Administration.
The President of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Vil Bakirov, delivered a report on improving the HR policy and management at the University, acquainting those present, inter alia, with the composition of the faculty and researchers of the University, and stressing the importance of the HR policy review in terms of the replacement reserve for the managerial positions, definition of qualities a contemporary instructor is to have, improvement of the system of faculty professional development and their performance evaluation.
