Marchenko’s scientific interests lie in mathematical physics, mathematical analysis, differentiated equations. He received the fundamental results in harmonic analysis and the theory of almost periodic functions, the spectral theory of differential and finite-difference operators: the theory of inverse problems in spectral analysis and the scattering theory; the spectral theory of large random matrices; the theory of electromagnetic wave diffraction in the periodical structures; the theory of fully integrated nonlinear evolution equations.

Marchenko is the author of more than 130 scientific works, including twelve monographs. His name is given to a formula and a mathematical method.
