On State and Prospects of eLearning (Distance Learning) at Karazin University

On April 25, 2016, Karazin University Academic Board held its regular meeting with the participation of the University Administration, deans, faculty and staff, and student self-government representatives.

The meeting began with awarding honorary titles: Doctor Honoris Causa of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University to the Research Adviser of the Institute for Scintillation Materials of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Chrystal Physics of the School of Physics, Academician Borys Hryniov, and to the Professor of Chemistry at the University of Rochester Oleh Prezhdo; Merited Lecturer of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University to the Director of the Research Institute Karazin Business School, Professor Volodymyr Aleksandrov; Vasyl Karazin Medal to the Dean of the School of Physics, Professor Ruslan Vovk.

In addition, diplomas were awarded to Dean of the School of Physics, Professor Ruslan Vovk, Professor of the School of Biology Liudmyla Vorobiova, Director of the Research Institute "Karazin Business School," Professor Volodymyr Aleksandrov.

Certificates of Commendation were awarded to the artists to have created and erected the monuments to the Nobel Prize winners, architect Serhii Chechelnytskyi, sculptors Oleksandr Ridnyi and Anna Ivanova, and to the head of the construction gang Hennadii Trehubenko.

The Director of the Institute for Post-Qualifying Education and Distance Learning, Viktor Levchuk, reported on the state and prospects of electronic (distance) learning at the University, placing special emphasis on the main promising vectors of development, including creation of the University’s directory of public lectures, provision of the E-learning (distance learning) program for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, creation of programs of distance learning courses on a commercial basis, etc.

The University Vice-President, Yuriy Kholin, spoke about the introduction of structured educational and scientific programs of the four-year cycle of training of PhD-degree holders, approval of the Provisions on the educational process organization at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, amendments to the Provisions on University faculty's work planning, reporting and evaluation, approval of the Provisions on the procedure for faculty's appointments and the Provisions on ranking of departments of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

According to the speaker, the structured educational and scientific program, in particular, is to provide for the conditions of admission to postgraduate programs (terms, forms of testing, programs, selection criteria), appointment of academic advisors, approval of the thesis topic and the plan of work, etc., and its main difference is greater attention to the educational component.

The University Academic Secretary, Natalia Vinnykova, acquainted those present with the procedure of considering certification cases of candidates for academic degrees of full professor, associate professor and senior researcher.
