Biography

In March 1998, Edward Bowell started a whole new program of asteroid monitoring known as LONEOS, which resulted in the discovery of about 5,000 new asteroids (his personal contribution is 562 asteroids) and 18 comets, and took Lowell Observatory to the second place in the world by the number of discovered new objects.

Since 1997, Edward Bowell was a leading specialist at Lowell Observatory, at the same time working on a voluntary basis at the International Astronomical Union (IAU): in 2000-2003, he was President of the IAU Commission 20, in 2003-2006 — Vice-President, and since 2006 — President of the Division of Planetary System Sciences.

The scientist has been to V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University three times, is in effective cooperation with the Research Institute of Astronomy of Karazin University.

In November 1980, Edward Bowell discovered a new asteroid, which, on his suggestion, was named 10685 Kharkivuniver (officially registered under this name on January 25, 2005).
