Biography

In 1990-1991, Yevtukh was the Head of the Department of Ethnopolitics and Forecasting of the Center for National Relations of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, in 1991-1995 — the Head of the Center for Ethnosociology and Ethnopolitical Research, the Deputy Director for International Relations of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Since December 1995, Yevtukh was the Minister for Nationalities and Migration of Ukraine, since August 1996 — the Head of the State Organizing Committee of Ukraine in Nationalities and Migration. He was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine in Italy, in Malta and San-Marino, awaded the diplomatic title of Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, Class II (since 1999).

His scientific interests cover ethnosociology, theory of ethnos, sociology of interethnic relations, in particular the phenomenon of ethnicity in public and international relations; interethnic cooperation and ethnopolitical management in polyethnic societies. Yevtukh has worked out two original concepts of ethno-political and ethnosocial research in Ukraine, defined the subject, and the object of ethnosociology as a science and academic discipline.

Yevtukh is the author of 350 works, including publications in foreign editions.

Yevtukh taught in educational institutions of Germany, the USA, Morocco.  He was an expert of the Council of Europe in ethnicities, the President (1992-1995) and Head of the Commission on Foreign Relations (1992-1993) of the Republican Association of Experts of Ukraine, the Head of the Administration of the Sociology Association of Ukraine (2000).

Awards

Laureate of Taras Shevchenko Prizes of T. H. Shevchenko Kyiv National University (2004), M. S. Hrushevsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2005). 

Order of Merit, Class III (2204) and Class II (2010).

Holder of numerous medals and decorations.
