Zinchenko’s contribution to shaping the conceptual apparatus of engineering psychology is significant: analysis principles of the operator’s activity, the concept of information and image-conceptual models, etc. He initiates founding a new speciality of “ergonomics”. In 1990s he goes beyond the boundaries of experimental and applied problematics to turn to problems of personal and spiritual development, aesthetic education and developing education, shaping the principles of psychological pedagogy, poetic anthropology and organic psychology. In the recent years he has been studying a person’s consciousness and history of psychology.

Zinchenko is the author of more than 400 scientific works, more than 100 of which are published abroad, including 12 monographs in English, German, Spanish, Japanese and other languages. In his works on history of psychology, the major focus is on the history of Kharkiv psychological school, Zinchenko’s memory theory.
