The scope of Reichardt’s scientific interests covers organic chemistry of aliphatic polyaldehydes, synthesis, and applications of polymethines, physical-organic chemistry, effects of solvents in organic chemistry, empirical parameters of polarity of solvents and their use. Reichardt also paid much attention to studying the history of the University of Marburg, in particular, the development of chemistry there.

Reichardt is the author of more than 160 articles published in German and world journals. His fundamental work is “Solvents and Solvent Effects in Organic Chemistry”, translated into German, French, Russian, Chinese
