Biography
In 1959, Tretiak-Shields became a postgraduate student of the University of Indiana, in 1961 — received a Master’s Degree in the Humanities, and competed her work to obtain a PhD degree. Tretiak-Shields taught Russian and Russian culture at the University at Buffalo (New-York state) for 20 years before retiring in 1981.
Tretiak-Shields is the author of two textbooks and many scientific articles. In 2001, she published her memoirs about the years of collectivization, repressions, Holodomor (1920-1930s) “The Glorious and the Dreadful”. Much attention in her memoirs is devoted to the years of her studies at the School of History at Kharkiv University.
