Karazin University has held a grand meeting of the University Academic Board dedicated to the 212th anniversary since the signing of the Affirmative Charter on Kharkiv University foundation. The participants of the meeting were the Director of the British Council in Ukraine, Simon Williams, University Administration, deans, directors of the centers and institutes, faculty members, students and guests.
The University President, Vil Bakirov, made his report “Values Born by History”, where he outlined a number of the core values that the University has cherishing throughout its history. These values have inspired generations of lecturers and students to unite science and education, democratic, collegial self-government, civic consciousness, enlightenment, national and cultural identity, democracy, free thinking, humanism, creativity, academic responsibility and integrity, openness, excellence.
According to the President, it was difficult to define the values because the social, economic and cultural contexts of the University’s activities had often been changing significantly for 212 years of Kharkiv University existence. It affected the formation of the University traditions.
“Every university colors the universitywide values with its own valuable experience, gradually creating its own unique corporate culture, special spiritual space that is permeated with a clearly understanding of its own mission, its relations between society and the state, internal relations between professorship and students, the overall attitude towards the world around us. The motto of Karazin University calls not only to learn and to teach, but to enlighten, i.e to keep up and enrich the cultural values,” pointed out Mr. Bakirov.
Another item on the agenda of the meeting was the awarding of the University Academic Board’s decorations to the best students of 20 Schools and the educational and scientific institute 'Karazin Business School'. The decorations were awarded to:
