Karazin University has held a solemn meeting of its Academic Board dedicated to Science Day. The University Administration, deans, and faculty participated in it.
In his welcoming address University President Vil Bakirov pointed out that science holds an important place in the activity of people working at Karazin University, and is their vocation and lifetime project.
Karazin University Vice-President Mykola Azarienkov made a report on the role and place of science at the University focusing on the peculiarities of the imperial universities created at the turn of the XVIII-XIX centuries, including V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, where a mandatory element of the academic process is research. He also outlined the achievements of the University's outstanding scientists in various fields of science, and stressed the significant role of scientific schools and the relationship between scientific, research and educational activities of the University faculty. “Understanding the weighty contribution of science to the academic process has shaped the image of Karazin University as a research university”, remarked Mr. Azarienkov.
The Dean of the School of Physics, Ruslan Vovk, spoke about the history, the main achievements and prospects of studies conducted at the Department of Low Temperature Physics (School of Physics). Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Sociology and Social Communications (School of Sociology), Oleksandr Khyzhniak, emphasized the personal, the collective and the institutional in development of science.
The University Administration awarded the outstanding scientists of Karazin University various decorations: Head of the Department of Psychological Counseling and Psychotherapy (School of Psychology), Oleksandr Kocharian — Vasyl Karazin Scholarship in the Humanities; Head of the Department of Journalism (School of Philology), Liubov Khavkina — a commendation of the Director of the Department of Science and Education of Kharkiv Regional State Administration; Professor of the Department of Environmental Safety and Environmental Education (School of Ecology), Oleksii Krainiukov, Head of the Department of Business Foreign Language and Translation, Iryna Shevchenko, Head of the Department of Human Anatomy (School of Medicine), Serhii Sherstiuk, Head of the Department of Surgical Diseases (School of Medicine), Yevhen Khvorostov, Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Psychology (School of Psychology), Olena Lutsenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Theoretical Radiophysics (School of Radiophysics, Biomedical Electronics and Computer Systems), Yurii Butrym, Associate Professor of the Department of Sociology (School of Sociology), Olha Filippova, Professor of A.
