On Results of Foreign Students' Enrollment and Thesis Committees' Performance in 2015

On December 28, 2016, Karazin University held an Academic Board meeting that looked into the results of the enrollment of international students, the work of the Thesis Committees in 2015, approved the decision on appointing faculty members of a number of departments to positions of full professor and associate professor, and awarded academic titles to the University scientists and scholars.

The meeting began with the awarding of titles: Doctor Honoris Causa of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University — to the Head of the Division of Cryopathophysiology and Immunology of the Institute for Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Anatolii Holtsev, the Academician-Secretary of the Division of Physics and Astronomy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Vadym Loktiev; Merited Professor of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University — to the Head of the Department of Botany and Plant Ecology, Tetiana Dohadina, the Head of the Department of Theoretical Radiophysics, Mykola Kolchyhin, the full professor of the Department of Social and Economic Geography and Regional Studies of the School of Geology, Geography, Recreation and Tourism, Kostiantyn Niemets, the Head of the Department of Sociology of the School of Sociology, Liudmyla Sokurianska; Merited Lecturer of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University — to the Dean of the School of International Economic Relations and Travel Business, Vadym Sidorov.

University Vice-President Zarif Nazyrov reported on the results of international students' enrollment in the current academic year pointing out the main problems and prospects, "In total, the University provides training for 4,495 international students, who mainly come from India, Jordan, Turkmenistan, Nigeria, Israel and other countries, most of which are students of the School of Medicine and the School of Law." According to the Vice-President, the major tasks in increasing and improving the enrollment of foreigners are adaptation of international students to the studies, creation of curricula for the most in-demand specialities in English, etc.

University Vice-President Viktor Katrych reported on the work of the Thesis Committees in 2015 focusing to the positive aspects and drawbacks in their work, and the number of the theses defended.

The Academic Board aslo approved the decision on creation of the Educational and Scientific Institute Karazin Business School of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, which intends to engage leading representatives of internationally recognized business structures in its work.
