Since 2003, Andrushchenko has been the President of M. P. Drahomanov National Pedagogical University. He is the President of the Association of Presidents of Pedagogical Universities in Ukraine, Vice-President of the Academic Network for Central and Eastern Europe (ANforCEE), a member of the Club of the Rectors of Europe (CRE).

His scientific interests lie in social philosophy, particularly philosophy of education, Ukrainian education improvement in the context of the requirements of the Bologna Process; strategies of development of higher pedagogical education and training of teachers under democratic and market transformations, globalization, and shaping of informational society; worldview-related problems, socio-cultural orientations, and bringing up student youth.

He is the author of about 500 scientific works, including 45 individual and collective monographs, as well as textbooks, teaching aids for students of higher educational institutions, pupils of secondary schools.

Order of Merit, Class III (2004), Certificate of Merit of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (2002, 2003), Badge of Honor of Kyiv City Head, orders and medals of ecclesiastical and public organizations.
