His scientific interests cover a wide range of issues concerning the history of Germany, the Soviet Union, and Russia, with particular interest to the Russian Revolution (1917-1920), World War I, the policy of totalitarian regimes of Germany, and the Soviet Union in the inter-war (1920-1930s) and after-war periods, and especially the history of World War II, in which area he is one of the leading scholars in the world.
Bernd Bonvech is the author and co-author of 16 monographs, over 110 scientific papers, over 160 reviews, co-editor of numerous scientific works.
