Since 1894, Hrushevsky was the Head of the History and Philosophy Section, since 1897 — the Head of T. H. Shevchenko Scientific Society, which he reorganized after the academy of sciences. There he initiated a number of scientific compendia, in particular (together with Ivan Franko) Literature and Scientific Bulletin. For his own money, he founded a private teaching seminary in the city of Kolomyia (1904).
Hrushevsky initiated the foundation of the Ukrainian Scientific Society (1907) issuing the scientific compendium Ukraine.
