Biography

In 1978, Zagorodny defended his PhD thesis “Electromagnetic Fluctuations in Limited Plasma and Molecular Systems”, and in 1990 — his doctoral thesis. Since 1998, he was a full professor, since 1997 — corresponding member, since 2006 — academician, Vice-President, since 2009 — Head Academic Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Zagorodny’s area of expertise lies in static physics and theory of plasma. He has developed the static theory of space limited plasma and molecular systems and studied the influence of interaction of plasma and molecular subsystems on electromagnetic fluctuations in such systems. He is the author of the coherent kinetics theory of dusty plasma based on the first principles of statistic mechanics.

Zagorodny has formulated the strict microscopic equations and the chain of the Bogoliubov equations for such plasma, which allows to describe a wide range of new physical phenomena in dusty plasma, previously unexplained.

Zagorodny is the author of more than 200 scientific works, including his famous monograph “Statistic Theory of Plasma and Molecular Systems”.
