Сhanges Approved to the Provision on the Educational Process Organization

Karazin University Academic Board has held its meeting with the participation of the President, Vice-Presidents, deans, directors of research institutes and structural subdivisions, and student self-government representatives.

The Dean of the School of Mathematics and Informatics, Hryhorii Zholtkevych, acquainted those present with the procedure for implementing the electronic document circulation at Karazin University. He emphasized it was advisable to make the transition to the electronic document circulation system gradual and necessity to involve professionals in its development. “Nowadays, there are only 60 types of students’ orders. Our goal is not to preserve the current record keeping system, but to optimize and simplify it. In this regard, it seems appropriate to implement it step-by-step,” stressed the speaker.

Mr. Zholtkevych also pointed out that the transition to electronic documents aims at minimizing the share of paper documents, increasing the transparency of managerial decision-making, improving the timely acquaintance of the employees with such decisions, eliminating the practice of unnecessary coordination of working papers.

“Firstly, we must completely refuse from paper documents, and, if possible, create everything in an electronic format using matrices and templets. Secondly, the electronic document circulation system is supposed to bring together all the University faculty and staff, from assistant to Vice-President and President, with students involved. As a result, we are expected to get ourselves a communication system,” stressed the University President, Vil Bakirov, in his speech.

The First Vice-President, Yuriy Kholin, presented the changes to the Provisions on the educational process organization at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and pointed out that the preparation of the new revision of the document included continuous work and public discussions. The changes are related to the organization, research and methodological support of the educational process: significant simplification of documentation and that of the procedure of final and end-of-semester exams.

Moreover, the document provides for implementation of the selective interschool disciplines in the Humanities and fundamental training. The second- and third-year students will be able to choose a number of courses themselves. “In order to attend the interschool courses, there will be groups formed of at least 15 students attending. The course syllabi are important for students because they enable them to orientate themselves and understand what awaits them during their studies. Perhaps the departments will develop a range of related disciplines, i.e. taking the selected course will require attending additional courses,” noted Mr. Kholin.

During the meeting, the Academic Board approved appointments of faculty members and awarded academic titles to the University scholars and scientists. Besides, the Board supported the proposal to recommend the scientists and scholars of Karazin University for scholarships of Kharkiv Regional State Administration in Science.

Following the discussion, the University Academic Board approved a number of regulatory documents relating to the academic process organization.

The documents approved by the Board will be available shortly on the Academic Board’s website.
